EMDR & Person-Centred Therapy

Support for the past.
Space for what’s next.

Helping you understand what you’re experiencing, process the past and move forward.

Life experiences can affect us in many different ways. You may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief, low self-esteem or a difficult period in your life. Perhaps something from the past continues to influence how you feel today, or you simply know that something needs to change but aren’t sure where to begin.

Person-Centred Counselling and EMDR therapy offer different but complementary ways of working through these difficulties. Person-Centred Counselling provides a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences at your own pace. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) can help process trauma and distressing experiences that may continue to affect your emotions, beliefs and responses in the present.

Therapy isn’t about being told what to do or who you should become. It’s about having the right support to better understand yourself, process what you’ve experienced and find a way forward that feels right for you.

In-person counselling in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and online sessions available.

Hi, I'm David

I’m a Person-Centred Counsellor and EMDR therapist offering a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can feel heard, understood and accepted without judgement.

I work with people experiencing trauma, anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem, grief and distressing life experiences, as well as those who may simply feel stuck, overwhelmed or want to better understand themselves and the patterns affecting their lives.

My approach is tailored to you. For some people, this may involve the space to talk and explore through Person-Centred Counselling. For others, EMDR may be appropriate to help process particular experiences or memories. Where helpful, the two approaches can also work alongside one another.

I offer sessions in person in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, as well as online, providing a supportive therapeutic relationship where we can work together at a pace that feels right for you.

You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. I’m here when you’re ready.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps process and reduce the emotional impact of difficult memories. Recognised by organisations such as the NHS, WHO, and American Psychiatric Association, EMDR is particularly effective for trauma, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties.

Through gentle techniques such as guided eye movements or tapping, EMDR helps reduce the intensity of painful experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming.

Whether used as a standalone therapy or alongside person-centred counselling, EMDR can support healing, clarity, and emotional freedom — at your own pace, in a safe and supportive environment.

What is Person-Centred Counselling?

Person-Centred Counselling is a non-directive form of talk therapy that focuses on the individual’s ability to find their own solutions and achieve personal growth. This approach is grounded in the belief that every person has an inherent capacity for self-awareness, self- healing, and self-actualization when given the right conditions.

Unlike some therapeutic models where the counselling takes on the role of an expert or guide, in person-centred counselling, the client is seen as the expert in their own life. The counsellor’s role is to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where the client can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences freely.

Core Conditions of Person-Centred Counselling:

Empathy:

The counsellor strives to deeply understand the client’s perspective and feelings, providing a sense of being truly heard and accepted.

Unconditional Positive Regard:

The counsellor offers genuine, non-judgmental support, accepting the client for who they are without conditions or criticism.

Congruence:

The counsellor is authentic and transparent, fostering a trusting relationship where clients feel comfortable being open and honest.
